Lock Picking Techniques

Lock Picking Techniques

Nothing is more important than the safety of their homes and loved ones. One of the most basic things you can do to protect your valuables to secure your residence with quality door locks. The entry point for most of the thefts is through a door because it is the quickest and easiest route in and out of your home.

You might be surprised to know that most building codes do not require a lock on exterior doors. Because codes construction does not require a minimum level of door locks, latches, selected most of the contractors on the basis of price. Therefore, it is extremely important for you to examine your existing locks to determine whether or not you need an update.

The types of locks

1. Knob locks - lock and dead bolt varieties. These locks can be easily collected or enforced. They are best used in interior doors, such as bedrooms and bathrooms, or in combination with bolts.

2. Deadbolts - many different varieties. These are the safest type of lock. Be used on all exterior doors of your home.

3. Chains - most are attached to the door and frame with short screws. Strings are generally not very thick or strong. They are useful as secondary protection. Do not use as a primary method of security.

4. Chocks - rubber or a triangle of wood that can be inserted into the door to prevent opening more a few centimeters. These can be reinforced by inserting two steel pins in the ground behind him. Well as secondary protection, especially on bedroom doors, which can slow down an intruder.

Bolts

Many would-be thieves are going to another house if they see high quality locks installed on all exterior doors. No matter what type of bolt you purchase, there are some key features that should have every bolt.

First, make sure the bolt extends at least one inch into the wall. Second, the blockade must be made entirely of metal, and there should be no exposed screws on the outside the door. Finally, to ensure you are purchasing a quality lock, be sure you have an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Grade 1 classification.

There are two types of locks, single cylinder and double cylinder. Single cylinder locks require input introduced from abroad, but can close to turning a knob from the inside.

Double cylinder lock requires a key both internally and externally to lock and unlock the door. Double locks cylinder are safer for glass doors contained or situated near a window. However, they can create a safety hazard if a solution is required fast. It's a good idea to keep a key in a designated place near the door in case of fire or other emergency.

Additional features locking

it difficult for him to get a cut as the pin rotates with each movement. This feature also prevents thieves from removing the screw with a wrench or vise grips. You can buy and drill resistant locks containing steel chips within the lock housing that destroy bits.

Motherboards Strike - Strike plates come with each lock on the door, but not all of them provide security. The strike plate is generally the most vulnerable part of the door lock whole. The strike plate should be of a heavy metal and attached to the door frame and stud wall with screws that are at least 3 inches long. The screw holes should be staggered for extra security as this makes it more difficult to split the door frame of wood with a strong impact.

Doors and door frames

No matter what type of lock you choose, can easily be useless unless they have a strong door and door frame.

You must use solid wood core or Metal doors for all inputs from outside your home, including doors leading from the garage on the inside of your home. Doors should be at least 1 ¾ inches thick without any glass panels that allow a thief to come and open the door from inside.

It is important to have a durable door frame, thus because thieves often use a technique called "diffusion" to enter your home. They are planting a wedge between the frame and the wall and the application pressure until the timber is inclined to allow entry.

To protect your home from this type of forced entry, install screws 3 to 4 inches along the strip door and frame. The screws should penetrate the stud to hold the door frame and pulls the door securely to the main wall.

The Next Step
Once you have the appropriate door lock installed, the most important thing to remember is to use it! A third of all home intruders gain access through a door or window.
